Studies in information technology have repeatedly shown that a failure to allocate sufficient capital to training can have an adverse impact on the outcome of the project. It is one thing to invest in a new ERP implementation and quite another to have staff members fully equipped to operate the system. Large software systems can confer a lot of benefits to organizations that adequately train staff. Sadly, many companies overlook this factor. There is little point in investing millions of dollars into software systems if you do not empower people to use them. This costs a company money but also lost profits that could result from a superior understanding of the tools at hand.
