The problem I have with Google is that they claim to frown on paid-for links. Fair enough. Yet, they are quite happy with the directory links of Yahoo, which are all ‘dofollow.’ Now it could be argued that Yahoo does not charge for links. I disagree. They make a charge for checking each submission in their business section. And at $199 it is not cheap. Worse still, if a submission is rejected the $199 is not refunded. Bottom line is that a webmaster is still paying money in the hope that their site will be featured in Yahoo’s directory, and if it is then they get a high PR backlink to their site, and a way to buy traffic.
