Karrie was curious about the effects of alcohol abuse.  For instance, she had heard a lot in the news lately about the many people who get DUIs, who experience an alcohol overdose, and whose lives basically get destroyed from chronic, abusive drinking.  Since Karrie had been your basic “party girl” for the past five years, she was starting to get a little older and starting to think about settling down with her boyfriend and having some children.  And in the back of her mind, she wondered how her drinking would negatively affect her goals and aspirations.  So she did some research on the Internet, armed herself with some good information, and then made an appointment to discuss some of her alcohol-related concerns with her doctor.  At least she would find out more about her drinking behavior and if she would have to do anything major to change her party lifestyle.
