Health Care Performance of Georgia
Finding affordable health insurance Georgia can seem overwhelming but once you have a basic understanding of the process it is likely easier than you think. A good place to start is the Georgia Department of Insurance, who is responsible for the regulation of health insurance, in addition to other types of insurance. They can provide you with a list of agencies and companies who are authorized to offer health insurance in the State of Georgia.
Another important thing to understand is that Georgia insurers are allowed to deny you health insurance based on your health. There are two exceptions to this.
If you have had 6 months or more of coverage under a group plan, for example with an employer, you might be eligible to buy what is called a conversion plan. This converts the group policy you had to an individual plan.
If you had 18 months or more of coverage and have used up all COBRA options you might then be eligible for HIPPA. If you are eligible for HIPPA, you are guaranteed not to be denied based on health issues.
If you are unsure if you fit into either of those categories, asking your insurance agent is a good step to find out if you are covered by either of those provisions.
