I had a lot of fun teaching ESL. My students were so interesting, and they had as much to teach me as I did them. I remember one girl in particular. During every esl lesson, she sat at the back of the class with her head on her desk. I could tell she wasn’t listening, but I didn’t know how to get through to her. One day, I pulled her aside and just started talking to her in her native language. That was when she finally opened up. She told me how much she missed her country and all her old friends. After that, I was finally able to make some progress with her.
