According to zune News, Microsoft decided that they wanted to sell the Zune players in various other colors, similarly to the iPod Nano, and add Zune originals for consumers to customize their Zune players. These have been great moves by Microsoft as they give the Zune players more lime light and they make the Zune players way more attractive. And sometimes that is all that it takes. Plus its cheaper than an iPod.
